Apple employee arrested, charged with buying $1M in company gift cards with fake plastic

A 24-year-old former Apple employee faces up to 15 years in prison for allegedly using recoded credit and debit cards to buy nearly $1 million worth of Apple gift cards, then reselling them on the black market, according to authorities in Queens County, New York.

“The defendant is accused of using his tech skills to rig the values on both American Express and Visa gift cards and then using them to purchase gift cards from his employer — The Apple Store,” said Richard Brown, the Queens district attorney, in a statement Tuesday. “The young man, a trusted employee who worked both as a salesperson and tech support, is accused of breaking that trust as well as the law.”

Apple removes apps from store that could spy on data traffic

Apple on Thursday removed several apps from its store that it said could pose a security risk by exposing a person’s Web traffic to untrusted sources.

The company recommended deleting the apps but did not name them, which may make it hard for people to know which apps put their data at risk.

The apps in question installed their own digital certificates on a person’s Apple mobile device. It would enable the apps to terminate an encrypted connection between a device and a service and view the traffic, which is a potential security risk.

Hacker jailbreaks Apple’s latest operating system before release.

Apple is all set to release its iOS 9 soon. However, the well known iOS hacker, iH8snow, has once again stolen the thunder. The hacker has released a new YouTube video that clearly shows the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 9, as reported by 9to5.

For a tethered jailbreak, an iPhone or iPad needs to be plugged into a Mac or PC when it’s booted. A boot without tethering won’t enter a jailbroken state. An untethered jailbreak, however, doesn’t have that constraint; it’s always jailbroken (even after a reboot).

Spurs Forward Matt Bonner Blames ‘Way Bigger’ iPhone For Trashing His Three-Point Shooting Percentage.

For most of his professional career, NBA player Matt Bonner has donned a San Antonio Spurs uniform. Including his first two seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Bonner’s been a reliable shooter, hitting over 46 percent of his shots over his career, including 41.4 percent from three-point land. That’s pretty good for a center-forward, though he’s coming off his worst shooting season of his 11-year career, and he blames the iPhone 6 for his woes.

If that’s where the story stopped, you’d probably assume he spent too much time posting to Twitter and playing mobile games and not enough time practicing his jumper in the gym. However, that’s now why he blames Apple’s newest flagship device, at least not directly. Instead, he theorizes that the enlarged iPhone gave him tennis elbow, which in turn threw off his shot.
